In a breach <*f promise case to-day, the hearing of which has concluded at the Supreme Court, the jury found for defendant on the point that an illegitimate child had been born previous to plaintiff's first marriage, the knowledge of which was concealed from defendant. Costs were allowed. Invercargill, last night. Before the Magistrate, Mr McCarthy, to-day, C C Powell, licensee of the Wallacetown Hotel, pleaded guilty to selling liquor on Sunday last, when the police entered the hotel and found two boarders and another drinking. Defendant, who explained that he thought boarders could shout for a friend, was fiaed £7 10s, the license not to be endorsed.
