PRESS ASSOCIATION Auckland, last night, The City Council decided to-night on the motion of the Mayor, to expend TSOO in the purchase of pictures for the Auckland Art Gallery. The Mayor (Mr A. M. Myers) gave notice to move that it be an instruction to the finance committee when framing the future years’ estimates to consider and if possible provide an annual sum for tho purchase of works of art for the Art Gallery, having special reference to tho native race and the history of tho colony. It is suggested that the sum now voted be expended in purchases of selections from the British art collections now on view at. the Christchurch Exhibition,:.
