PORT AWANUI
Nov. 17. Quite an exciting time was created on Monday by a man named Frank Andorson, with various aliases, who managed to get into Mr Duff's storeroom and get drunk and very violent, using threatening and most disgusting language and kicking the pohcemau. He was brought up on i uesday before Messrs Jackson and Ludbrook, J.Fs, and was sent to Wapier gaol for six months, a sentence liehly deserved. I hear Te Araroa has been having a similar experience or worse, for it appears ayouug man lately arrived there, immediately issued a challenge to fight any man in To Araroa for five pounds. The challenge was taken up, and there was a regular prise fight in the public road, with about 100 spectators, both men beiDg stripped to the waist. After a time both meu beiDg pretty well ex hausted, Mr Hovell came upon the scene and stopped the fight, but ho in turn has been threatened that if ho brings the matter beforo the police they will “do for ” him and another white man, consequently two respectable men have to be prepared for e wrgei cies. Summonses hat e b" 1 ' n nsued and the parties will interview Mr Barton on his next visit, 17:h of December. I mentioned before that it was time a policeman wrs stationed there, as there are several bad characters want looking after.
The Baupiri w- s in Friday morning, but it being rough sho only landed cne boat, and went on North.
