A Wellington oarrespondent writos of tho wool sale at Wellington lass week : The opening ealo of Sho 19e’6 7 wool season was hr Id ou Friday iu the oonor-rt hall of the Town Hall, wish a good attendance of agents, buyer?, aud growers. The oom petition (says the Tim-s) was keon and tho scene duriog the bidding very animated. Tho first values obtained wore auspicious for New Zealand woolgcowor?. Bayers led off with pricss higher tnan was expected by brokers and considerably above what the buyers themselves autiii patod a week ago- The rise, of oourse, was due to tho cornering of the “ boars ” ou tho Bradford market. They had forood down prices, and probably calculated to obtain supplies to moot their ougagomonts by private purchaso before tho oponing sales, but in this thoy wore disappointed, so far as this colony is concerned, as not ouotenth of tho wool purchased privately before tho first salo of last soasou was obtained this year. Bradford agonts expected to bo able to buy from Now Zealand farmers at 9d to 9ld, but growers havo followed tho market closoly and demandod lid to Is. Not being ablo to secure cheap supplies, tho ” boars ” havo boon forced into the market, with the result soon yesterday. Tho condition of tho wool offered at the sales was quite equal to that of last year, but on the present occasion it was nob so toudor, due to tho better winter and tho less severe spring. This year’s wool is generally of a finer description. It is anticipated, however, that there will bo a larger proportion of coarser grades offering at the next sales. Tho bulk of tho wool has beou bought for Yorkshire houses. Somo of the best lines are going to America, and Belgium buyers secured about 150 balos.
