At tho annual meeting of tho Now Zoalancl Shipping Company yesterday, the Chairman expressed a hope that an amicable agreement would soon be arrived at regarding the friction between tho direct liners and Federal-Moulder-Shire combinat ion in connection with tho homeward trade of the colony. The friction had caused a reduction of freights below paying point In connection with this a conference is being held in Christchurch today between tho companies interested with a view to arranging a settlement.
