Mr Charles Verner’s Dramatic Company.
Already interest is manifested in the coming drama soason, at His Majesty’s Theatre, of Charles Verner supported by the Royal Irish Dramatic Company. Mr Verner’s success among tho world’s leading actors has stamped him as an artist of exceptional ability. The exceedingly enthusiastic receptions (according to reports) recently accorded him in American and continental cities, shows that ho is an actor of high merit. Tho initial production will bo the patriotic and historic Irish play “ fihamus O’Brien,” which has had such an enormous run throughout tho world, with Charles Verner in tho title role. “ Sharnus O’Brcin ” is a romantic play-, picturesquely dressed, and full of incident from first to last. The Auckland Herald says:—Mr Verner came as a pleasant surprise to habitues of His Majesty’s Theatre. Ho was perfectly natural in his acting, and therein showed that ho had mastered his art from tho first principles to the last. He discarded most of tho old stage mannerisms, and threw himself completely into tho character as wax in a mould, and the result was eminently satisfactory. He was a happy combination of the tragedian and the comedian. He sang several pretty songs, among them: “Live in My Heart” and “ My Boy you Are Irish,” which woro heartily applauded. Ho is, without doubt, an artist to tho finger tips. Tho company supporting the “ star ” is said to bo one of the strongest drama attractions in Australasia, and liberal support everywhere has been the result. The opening production will be upon a complete and comprehensive scale, special scenery and effects, and all the details necessary to an artistic realisation of tho dramatists’ masterpiece have been bountifully provided. Full particulars aro aunounced in another column. A special t.tain will leave for the country after Saturday’s performance,
