" r "jyS§ A general meeting of tho Hawke’ Bay Fruitgrowers’ Association wa* held last week to discuss several questions in connection with the introduc tion of the fruit fly into the colony. Mr Griffiths, a fruit morchaut from Wellington, with Fiji experience, said that all precautions should be taken to prevent the fly from obtaining a hold. Personally, he thought that there was no fear of the fly spreading south of Auckland, as frost would in all cases destroy the maggot or tho ily. The executive were authorised to make a levy not exceeding Is per acre on all members of the association, such fund to be expended in telegrams or rail fares in communicating with the Go-, vornment to ensure active and im mediate steps being taken in tho event of an outbreak of the fruit fly in this district. It was resolved to draw up a paper which would show to the public the effect the establishment of the fruit fly in the colony would have on fruit prices, such letter to be published throughout the colony.
