Tolcio, Nov 17. Tlio launching at Yokohama of the Siitsumu, .Japan’s new battleship, was attended by a sensational incident. It has transpired Unit a number of foreigners resident in Yokohama laid wagers of 7 to 3, to the extent of one hundred thousand pounds sterling, against the launch being successful. Several .Japanese workmen were arrested prior to the launch taking place, tlio supposition being that they with others had been bribed to obstruct the ways. A preliminary examination of the prisoners, however, did not show that tho betting was connected with tlio alleged plot.
