TINIROTO NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) This district at the present lime of my writing presents a somewhat lively appearance in the way of gangs of shearers flying from one shed to another, as theta are at prefect two or three rival gangs of Maoris outting hard against each other in order to obtain the larger sheds. Then we have the well hardened lad who has in many oases Bwuog his 41b exe for the last four or six months oomieg in from the seenea of his winter work to the usual 11 good time ” while it lasts. While upon the subject of bush-felling, there will be a somewhat large amount of bush burnt this year around Tiniroto, and with a good season for turnips, I venture to predict a somewhat superior class of sheep will be obtainable from this part.
I understand that the timber for the j bridge over the Hangarca river will bo in a a few days carted to tho site of ereetioo, | and tho work gone on'with as soon as § possible. 1 The members of tho Tiniroto Rifle Club, J! I understand, have decided to turn the S club into a defense club id keepiog with other rifle clubs. This resolve is worth racomintiodiDg, and those who at the V6ty jj biith of tho club held out for a defence ? cun, will be pleased to sfe their object carried out as far a- members of the clcb a>e concerned. Tois subject brings me ti another qaes* Y tion which is evident that here we must bolievo “the sword is mightier than the ’"? pen,” as a movement is on hand to establish a mounted cavalry carps to counist of nothing but Maori memberr. Tho Maoris of To Rtinga are about to bold a daoeo.in tho hall next week. A taegi will follow over tho dead romains of
a Maori buried in the pah some lhreer\i;<s months ego. *. Nj At this time of the year I wouid invite ! some of tho Gisborne photographers to pay. tbit district a visit withiu tho nozt ! week or so ; real characteristic photos of i&;• “shearing operation?,” “Tc Reinga Falls,” “ station life,” " Maoris celiog,” “ lake soenes,” 010 , all suitablo for picture post*' cards to send to friouda abroad,
