DEATH OF HON. A PITT.
FUNERAL TO TAKE PLACE AT NELSON.
PRESS ASSOCIATION. Christchurch, last night. The Hon. A. Pitt, Attorney Genere Minister for Defence, and Minister i charge of the Government Accident at Fire Insurance Department, died at 5.. this morning, at Nurse Turner’s priva Nursing Home, where he underwent serious operation a few days ago. C Friday lie showed considerable improt ment, but he slowly sank all day i Saturday, and could not retain ai nourishment. He continued to sii during the night, and at 4.30 pm. ask for a cup of tea, which was given hii He then fell into a deep slumber, ai died peacefully in his sleep. ' On the news reaching Wellington erde were immediately given for the despati of the Government steamer Tutanekai Lyttelton. She will reach port early t morrow morning, and will wait until tl arrival of the second express, which wi bring the Premier and the Hon J. 1 Millar up from the South. It is understood that the funeral wl not be a military one. The Minister’s two daughters (who flat present in Christchurch), his Privs Secretary, the Premier, the Hon. J. j Millar, and probably the Hon. W. Ho Jones, will journey by the Tutanekai order to be present at the funeral.
