The situation in France has apparently inspired a letter written by the Pope, and which was published in the Asservatore Romans, direoting Cardinal Respighi, Vicar-General of Rome, to order special prayers for the enemies of the Church His Holiness declares this is the only means left him in the present grievous condition of the Church, fought and oppressed by many of her own children [who had become her enemies. .
