The Shipmasters' Assoeia ion is taking proceedings against papers publishing the Auckland Press Asso ciation telegram to-day reporting the remarks of the chairman of the Auckland Harbor Board on the action of the Shipmasters’ Association v. the Harbor Board, on tho ground that the case is sub judice. Christchurch, last night. In the Supreme Court Walter Evans was sentenced to 18 months’imprisonment for obtaining money by false pretences. Colonel Pitt passed a quiet night, and is reported to be easier this morning. His condition is as satisfactory as can be expected, but it will be some days before he is out of danger. Dunedin, last night. The Presbyterian Assembly dmeuesed Church union to day. An amendment by Dr Nisbet to discharge the committee on the subject was negatived by 41 to 36. Obituaxy : Mrs J. A. Millar, wife of the Minister for Labor, of apoplexy. Greymouth, last night. Mr Henry Smith, Inspector of Schools under the Grey Education Board, died to-day, after six weeks’ illness. Hokitika, last night. The Tourist Association of Westland has adopted resolutions thanking the Government for introducing the oneday overland service between Christchurch and Hokitika, and asking for excursion fares to the West Coast during the three summer months for the encouragement of tourist traffic to this district. The Association proposes taking steps to more widely advertise the scenic attractions of Westland, with the object of attracting visitors.
