(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waipiro, Nov, 12. Constable McLeod of Tolago Hay joined the party searching for the Maori fugitive, Haro Matenga, on Saturday last. Mr J. J. Keane, who has been in charge of the Government co-operative road works along this coast for the past couple of years, I am sorry to stato, is leaving the Coast to take up his duties with the Cook County Council at the end' of this month. Mr Keane is a very popular officer with the men, besides, being much respected by settlers and others, and will be much inis--ed. However, there is one thing to bo remembered, that he is better' ing his position, and no doubt all will wish him well. Mr Keane was one of the party who was snowed up in the ranges last July when searching for Matenga. T-ho inclemency of the weather on the King’s Birthday prevented the cricket teams of Waipiro and Tokomaru completing the match. Anothor match is .J o be played on Saturday, when it is hoped I the weather will bo fine in order that these teams may be able to try conclusions, as there is a healthy rivalry existing. Shearing operations are nearly all in full swing along the Coast, and with tho continuance of good weather will be completed early this year. Scarcity of labourers, especially navvies is still causing delay in the road work and other lines. Consequently men who are coming along are getting high wages. Wages men who aro helping to finish hush contracts are getting Is 6d an hour,
