WANGANUI SHOW.

PRESS ASSOCIATION Wanganui, yesterday. Though rain fell during the night, the weather broke fine for the opening day of the Wanganui Show, passing clouds and a fresh breeze pleasantly tempering the sun’s heat. There are splendid entries in every class. The horses are very good, the thoroughbreds, though not numerous, being of grand quality. There is a fine lot of cattle, especially in the fat classes, while the show of sheep is really magnificent, The CJorriedale sheep, specially adaptable Igr rough country, attracted much attention, being excellent both in regard to wool and mutton. There is a large entry and strong competition in the dog classes, the judges remarking they were the finest lot they had ever seen. All other classes are well represented. Quality is especially noticeable in home industries. The tshow hag g phenomenal increase of exhibits in this section, which is greatly admired. There is a capital attendance of the public for an opening day, In thoroughbred horses, lan Duncan’s Conqueror was first and champion; J. Nixon’s Ascotvale first in thoroughbred mares; 0, Jefferson’s Silver Spec first prize for coaching stallion. The draughts will riot be judged till to-morrow. In cattle, G. F. Moore’s Hereford bull Ensign was first and champion ; G. M, Currie’s Hereford cow first and champion ; J. DonalJ and Son swept the board in Holsteins ; in ; Ayrshires Mrs Caldwell’s bull was first and champion, Donald and Sons’ bull tailing similar honors in the Jersey class. Wougauui, lust night, Too Wauganui show opened to-day with recjrd entries. Tua hone SEOiion was probably the best saen iu Wanganui, a feature being the fiao typical animals sent fram South Taranaki. Knight of Thistle win in ths two-year-old entire oiass, and a eon of Lord Roberta the yearling emiro c'aae, A daughter of Asihorne won the two year-old tidy class, and a son of Quality King ibe two-year-old gelding ci.-ss. Tfco eatdo section was particularly strong in fa's, three Kaiwi Hereford bcoedoca show mg a magnificent collection. Shorthorns were a good lot. Tboro was limited competition in Hohteina, bot the winners comprised the prizo-takers at tie Exhibition show, and several good Ayißhircs were shown. Tho sheep Classes were the bsss yet Been in Wanganui. W. H. Wybourne repeated hla Palmerston sucoessss in Lin ! ooios, and E. Short swept tho board in Romneys, Southdowns were a particularly good class, and tbo flick of sheep classes wore well patronised. Pigs were a | email entry, but tho qualify was good.
