Gore, last night. Sir Joseph Ward arrived at Gore by express this afternoon. He was welcomed at the Town Hall by tbo Mayor on behalf Of tho citizens, and afterwards visited the High School. • Speaking at a reception he referred to the illness of Colonel Pitt, and expressed a hope that the serious operation he was undergoing that afternoon at Christchurch would be successful.

Afterwards Sir Joseph Ward received a wire stating the operation had been successfully performed and the patient was progressing favorably
