MOTU BRANCH,
Tho monthly mooting of tho above was hold at Motu on tho 3rd inst., when a largo and representative num" bor of settlors were present. Mr E. Richardson pvosidod. Mr F. Hall was olectod a member of tho branch. Messrs Common, Sliolton and Co., wishing to start local stock sales, sent their representative, Mr Kingston, to meet the settlors assembled. . After considerable discussion it was unanimously decided to support a general stock sale by Messrs Common, Shelton and Co on the last luesday in February, to be hold in Mr iii. Richardson’s sheep and cattle yards kindly lent for tho occasion—and also another salo late in tho autumn if sufficient stock is forthcoming. As soon as possible after shearing intending vondors are requested to send their entries to the Chairman, secretary, or Messrs ComrnoD, fchelton and Co., that the sale may be advertised in both Gisborne and Opotiki papers. The district Engineer, Mr Brodrick, having been interviewed re a suitable cemetery site at Motu, it was decided to apply for section 28, block II , Motu, S.D , containing eight acres, ono rood, uinetoen perches, which the district Engineer is willing to reeommond to the Commissioner of Crown Lands for approval. Tho Hon. Wir J. G.Ward and Hon. J. Carroll replied ro a Government telephone line from Te Karalca to Motu, that the matter will rcc3ive careful consideration when the question of back-block telephones is being dealt with.
Having received notice that section nine, block 11L, Motu vdlage exten sion, has been permanently reserve! as a public hall and library site. Messrs E. Richardson, 1?. Hansen, and W. J. Baigont were nominated as trustees, it was suggested to asic Mr A. Carnegio for a grant to build tue library. The suggestion will be considered at the next meeting.
Tho Hon. Minister of Lands was asked for more copies of his speech ou the proposed Land Bill (a few having been sent already). The branch has iuvitod tho Hon. Minister to visit Motu during tho recess, to address tho settlers on the Land Bill ; being exclusively a farming district and most of tho settlors Crown tenants, it is hoped that timo will allow of Motu being visit 1 1 when the Hon. Ministor of Landa comos to Gisborne.
A committee consisting of Messrs E. Richardson, T. Elliott, Turner, P. Mortenson, and A. E. Campbell were appointed to mako tho necessary arrangements for a picnic and social on the occasion of the expected visit of the Provincial President and VicePresident in February next. The next ordinary meeting will be held on Saturday, December Ist, at 7.30 p.m.
