COLONIAL CONFERENGE.
PRESS ASSOCIATION COPYRIGHT Received 11.-16 p.m., Nov 9
London, Nov 9,
Speaking at the Union Club dinner Mr Alfred Lyttelton discussed the problems for the Colonial Conference. He reminded the Government that even if unable to accept Colonial preference they need not prevent the constitution of reciprocal trade on preferential terms between Crown colonies, India, and the self-governing colonies. He deplored the widespread dissatisfaction because the Imperial Government had failed to make the voice of the colonies effective on questions affecting Alaska. Newfoundland and New Hebrides. The colonies and Britain ought to eaeli understand tho other's standpoints hotter. An advisory council permanently sitting in London would be likely to prove a helpful means of removing misunderstanding and soreness. He suggested reserving some places in the Civil service for young Colonials.
