NARROW ESCAPES,

PRESS ASSOCIATION Auckland, last night, A fatal accident took place at St. Helier’s Bay to-day, a lad named Arnold F. Adeanc being drowned. He was one of a yachting party of five, and was steering when the tiller broke, and ho was precipitated into tho water. His body was taken from the water as it was sinking Artificial restoration was tried for three hours, but- without effect.

Several narrow escapes from drowning also occurred in the harbor to-day, several yachts being capsized in consequence of the squally weather- In one case a father and two daughters were out in a sailing boat when the boat capsized and sank, leaving the top of the mast just out of the water The father clung to the mast, while the daughters, neither of whom could swim, were kept afloat by their clothes until assistance arrived.
