The Canterbury Jockey Club’s Exbibi lion Meeting continued to-day at Ricoarton. The weather was fiao, though a BtroDg nor’-west wind made nutters unpleasant for the aptetatorr. It was first started eight tninulES bßforo the advertised time, Leeside winning easily frem Sardonyx, with Msgnifioent a poor third. Also started : Signalman, Golden Cairn, King Billy, Mystification, Ghoorka, Huascar, Savoury, Martello, Manjess, Grand Slam, Aboriginal, Wirrall, Pas Seul and Blythemaid. Wirrall made most of the running, but was caught at the distance by Red Gauntlet, who won by a neck, Cross Battery a head behind Wirrall- The latter’s rider, however, failed to weigh in, and Wirrall was disqualified and second money and dividend went to Cross Battery. Won by half a head. Time, 116 4-5. Divs , £4 18s and £1 12s. Hemlock and Miss Doris fell, the latter receiving injuries that necessitated her destruction. The stewards commenced an enquiry into the running of the race, and adjourned consideration of the matter. Electric Plate-Achilles 1, Munjcct 2, Rawmorc 3. These were the only starters. It was a splendid race, Achilles winning by half a head. Time, 43 3-5, Div., £1 7s fid.
