At a meeting of the Colonial Sugar Company the net profits for the half year were L 11.674, A dividend of 5 per oentum for the half year was deolared. The report showed that the Fji crop was expeoted to be muoh below the average, aud the Australian crop above expectations. The ohairman stated that sugar production would be practically sufficient for Australian consumption. As the result of. the abolition of Bonth African differential duties the oompany hope to obtain a fair share of the sugar trade of those oolouieß. Tne withdrawal of New Zealand from the reciprocal treaty had □ot affected the present position. The oompany, had the treaty been adopted, would have derived an advantage by sending sugar to Auckland, and bringing F.ji sugar to Sydney, but the agreement was too one-sided to be a lasting one.
