residents, WilkinsoD and Hughes, were startled by the report of a revolver and the impact of a bullet striking mangrove trees within a few feet of their position, Looking back they saw an old man on the other side of the river, whioh was narrow at this place, levelling a revolver opporently at the boat. Three shots were afterwards fired in quick succession, on e hitting Wilkinson in the thigh and rieooheting off. Hughes flang himself into the bottom of the boat, just in time to escape receiving’: this bullet in the head.
