Tho body of an apparently folly developed male child was found floating in the harbor. Tne police removed the body to the morgue. Tne body was headless, and had apparently been in the water about two weeks. Tho police are at present unable to form an opinion as to whether or not the oaild hai bean th viotim of foul play. The matter is now in the hands of the police and coroner. Christchurch, last night. Contender was eoratched for the Stewards’ Handicap at 1 p.m. to-day. At the adjourned inquest held co-day touching the death ot Mrs Euphemia Dempsey, of Lyttelton, whose body was found floating in the harbor on Thursday morning, a verdict of found drowned was returned.
At the request of several intending competitors, the Exhibition authorities have postponed the date for reoeiving entries for the Exhibition musioal aud elocutionary competitions to Saturday, November 3rd. Tne competitions will be held from Dooember 10 to 15, inclusive. Wanganui, last night,
Wotd was reoeived m town to night that Mrs J. Baldwin, wife of a well known Bettler in the Turakina Valley, was killed this atternoon as tne result of a riding aooident. No acticulars are obtainable.
