WORKS DISTRIBUTION.
[(Special to Gisborne Times.) /Wellington, last night. “My district, I have no hesitation in saying, lias been scandalously treated this year.” Thus Mr Rutherford, the member for Hurunui, in referring to the Public Works expenditure last evening. “ Same here,” echoed a plaintive voice from the cross benches, amid a chorus of depreciatory “ Ohs! ” and “ Ahs ! ” Mr Rutherford then proceeded to give the total votes for roads and bridges allocated to the various provinces as follows : —■ m Auckland 143,026 Hawke’s Bay 37.712 Taranaki ... 36,839 Wanganui ■ ... ... ... 4,290 Wellington 39,913 The total for the North Island being over £300,000. The South Island votes, lie said, totalled only 1211,000, of which Nelson and 'Westland took over one half, The provincial distributions were as follows £ Nelson ... 00,829 Marlborough 15,226 Westland 48,595 Otago ... -4,881 Southland 30,702 Canterbury £15,361, £3OOO of which was for the maintenance of the road from Springfield to Kumara.
