CRICKET FUND.
A meeting of the Poverty Bay Grioket Fond Committee wts held at the Maeonie Hotel last night. Present: Messrs 0. B. Neale (chairman), G. B. Oman, B. G. Hallamore, H. hi. Maude, H. E. Hill, Fenwiok, 0. R. Olsen (hon, seo.), Hodge, and Pasley. A letter of apology was read from Mr W. Miller (treasurer) who wbb unable to attend. The meeting was called to consider a I
request of the Crioket Association for a grant for a cricket pitch. The fund has
u hand between L3O and L4O, and It was proposed to spend about L2O on a pitob to be laid in the Victoria Domain. A long discussion followed, many mem bora of the committee being very doubtful whether it was possible to lay a turf wioket at this time of the year, Mr Oman stated that Mr Thompson, an authority on the eufcj?ct, had said it was possible if plenty of water were availabls that a pitch could be got ready by Christmas, and it was stated that a seoondharjd windmill plant could be obtained for LlO, I which would give the necessary supply, Muoh difference of opinion existed as to what object tho fund was started for, some membeis bolding that it wes primarily to lay a wioket, while others thought it was for the general advancement of the game in the distiior.
A motion by Mr Hnllamoro to grant L2Q to tbe Asßooiatiou, LlO to be spent on tbe pitch and LlO on a windmill, to te placed in Victoria Domain, was oariied.
