PRESS association Wellington, last night, The Council met at 2 30 p no The Legislative Councfl reporting and Debates Committee brought up a report on the question of expediting tho publication of Hansard. The Committee recom mended a weekly issue to tho public, in lieu of a biweekly as at present, and the use of improved machinery in printing thereof. It was recommended that the Government Printer should ho sent to England and Amorica to purchase machinery.

Hon G. Jones moved for a return showing the number of petitions and the number of persons who have signed petitions presented to Parliament this session praying that hotting by means of the totalisator may bo made illegal. lion. W. Beehan suggested that another phase of the question was the number of persons who had not signed such petitions.

Hon T. Tnompson, while not opposing the motion, said the number of signatures was a very small minority of the whole community. Hon. G. Jones, in reply, said it was quite open to the other side to get petitions signed if they chose to get them up. He was certain the publication of tho number of signatures to these petitions would be an eye opener to the publicThe motion wbb lost on division by 12 to 13, After discussion the Advances to Settlers Bill was read a seoond time on the voices, The Agricultural Implement Manufao ture, Importation and Bale Act Extension Bill and Kensington Park Rate Exemption Bill were put through the final stages. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The House met at 2 30 p.m. The Factories Bill was read a first time. It hes only one olauße, providing for the better prevention of aooidents in factories. The Industrial Conciliation aud Arbitration Bill was returned from the Labor Bills Committee bb per yesterday’s order of the House. It came with one amendment, placing the seoretary of the Court under the control of the Presidint instead of the Court, ae the Bill originally provided. THE ESTIMATES. The House went into Committee oi Supply. Oa State forests, L 30.642, a long discussion arose on the rapid depletion of the oolony’s forests and other matters, but tho vote passed unaltered. State coal mines, L 135.655, passed unaltered after discussion, and numsrous other items were approved, the ordinary estimates being finished. LOANS BILL. The Loan Act Amendment Bill was passed through all stages, aud the House adjourned to 2.30 p.m. on Monday.
