THE GONDOLIERS.

y (To the Editor Gisborne Times. fir, —I crave a spu.ee in your valuable columns to draw attention to the musical week which is in store for the theatre- , goers of Gisborne. Having been associated j with amateur opera for some years, I re- . ccivod an invitation to lie present at a rehearsal of the Gondoliers last evening, when I was agreeably surprised at tiie really creditable work put in by the local { f talent. The whole performance went I * through from start to finish with a right 1 good swing, and should the club maintain 1 this form on tho four show nights I 1 venture to predict an unqualified success. A word of praise is due to the efficient orchestra under Mr Foster's baton, and the business is capitally carried out under the capable management of Mr Kennedy. Tho usual difficulty of obtaining soloists for the caste, has been surmounted, and 1 all performers appear at home in their re- 1 spcctive parts. My motive in writing is .1 purely aesthetic, though I sincerely hope that the Gondoliers will bo played to 3 “ bumper ” houses throughout the season, j —I am, etc , j, It. Noton. j Gisborne, October IfJth. u [Even more eulogistic comments have 11 reached us from an Auckland gentleman v who visited a previous rehearsal,— c M- Cr.T/j W
