Mr Bryce, replying to a deputation in connection with the partial failure of the potato crop in the west of Ireland, said that experience convinced everyone that in dealing with distress in Ireland it was most dangerous to institute public works merely for the sake of relief. If they must institute such works their permanent value to the neighborhood must bo considered.
