STATUS OF THE NEW PRESIDENT. r e—» Special to the Times. Wellington, last night. Tho Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Aci Amendment Bill was circulated to-night. The Bill provides for the appointment of a president of the A’bitration Court. It states that no person shall bo eligible for such appointment unless he is eligible to be a judge of the Supreme Cour', Tho president so appointed shall as to tenure of office, salary, emoluments, and privileges (including superannuation allowanoe), have the eamo rights and be subjeot to the same provisions as a judge of the Supreme. Court. The Governor may appoint tho president a temporary judge of tbe Supremo Court if upon the cartificate of the Chief Juatioa it appears that judicial assistance is required. In case of tbo illness or unavoidable absenoo of the president at any time the Governor Bhall appoint some judge of the Supreme Court to act as president during suob il!dobs or absence. There shall be paid to eaoh member other than the president tbe annual sum of £SOO, in addition to such travelling expenses as are prescribed by regulations. Pars of Beotian 1 and 22 of tbe principal Acs is to be repealed so far as the same relates to members of tbe Court. Tho Governor may from time to time appoint some fit person to be seoretary to tho Court, who shall be paid such salary at the Governor thinks fit, and shall be subject to tbe control and direction of the president.
