Ward, stating that the writer’s dead body would bo found on the top of Bangitoto. Two constables have gone in an oil launch to investigate. _ Mr Leslie E. Brown, Fiji Commissioner at tho Exhibition, arrived by the Hauroto, with thirty tons of exhibits, including most of the products of the group, including sugar cane plants, rice plants, botanical curiosities, and curios. A number of islanders will arrive later to erect the Fiji houses in the Exhibition grounds. Waihi, last night. At the inquest on W. C. Eitzgerald, chemist, a verdict of death from misadventure by taking an overdose of trional while in a physically weak state was returned. - Wellington, last night. The Carlton Hall building was badly damaged by fire this morning. The floor on which the outbreak occurred was occupied as a billiard saloon by J. Midwood. The contents, Consisting of two billiard tables and saloon fittings, were completely destroyed. Two shops underneath wore damaged by water. The building, which was owned by Mr Edward Newman, was insured for £4OO in the New Zealand office, for £IOO in the Royal Exchange, and £l5O in the Victoria. Tho billiard tables were insured for £2BO.

Christchurch, last night. The hanging has been completed of all the British pictures in tho exhibition art gallery, and the statuary has been placed in position. The gallery will be roady next week. Dunedin, last night.
