PRESS ASSOCIATION Wellington, last night, A deputation from the Chamber of Oomcneroe waited on the Premier to*day and urgad the necessity for an improve* meot in the ocean mail services. Sir Joseph Ward said he reoognieed that the present services were inad. quate, In' addition to the ’Frisco servioe the oolony should have the Vancouver servioe, as well es a weekly servioe via Australia. In oonneolion with the last named he had been in oommunioalion with the Union Company and Huddart, Parker and Co,, to induce them to despatch the boats on Fridays instead of Saturdays, but although the oompanies bad reduced their original demands for suoh a servioe they were not yet reasonable enough, aud negotiations were Btill in progress. The ’Frisoo servioe proprietary bad in view the building of three large steamers to replace the present ones, and to give an improved servioe, and although no progress had been made with the Vanoouver service negotiations, there was a prospeot of improvements in our ocean mail Bsrvioe on the lines indicated at no distant date. He had made an effort to secure a conneotiou with the new Federal eervioe from Adelaide, bat had not been successful,
