PRESS ASSOCIATION Wellington, last night. A single man named Patrick Delaney died in a oell at Petone police station. Deceased was arrested by Constable Tonkin about 7.30 last evening, on a charge of drunkenness. Constable Cox visited him
regularly until 3.15 this morning, whin he appeared rational, and was able to converse freely. He was next visited at 6 o’olock, and was found to be dead. Debased wao prohibited, a laborer by occupation. Later.—An inquest was held at Petone yesterday afternoon on the body of Patrick Delaney, found dead in tho pcloe cells that morning. Dtoeased was a laborer living at Lower Hntt, a single man. The evidence showed there was o prohibition order against deceased, who was arrested
on Friday evening for drunkenness. Daring tho night ho asked for whisky, but in accordance with the regnlaticn Ibis was rofused. About four and a half hours
later he was found dead. The autopsy showed that death was due to syncope, tbe heart being diseased. A verdict was returned accordingly.
