INSPECTOR GENERAL CRITICISED
(Special to Times), Welling'oa, lust night. The administration of the Hospital Department by the Inspector Genera (Dr. McGregor; came in for some sever criticism from various members durin; the discussion of the hospital estimate late on Friday night. Amongst the speakers was Mr Hogg who, referring to Dr McGregor’s remarks concerning tho jewellery worn by ccrtaii nurses, said it was a well-known facl that for years the inspector’s reports haci been of a very erratic character, and lie (Mr Hogg) hoped some time in the future to see them embalmed amongst the curiosities of English literature. Instead of inspecting the hospitals the officer had been inspecting the nurses He thought some improvement would be made if the Inspector General received a mild rebuke. Probably he would not remain very long in the service of the colony, but he (Mr Hogg) thought he might very well leave the pads and brooches alone. Ho should pay a little more attention to his legitimate duties. The class of statements complained of by members were all very well for a matrimonial agent, but, in the case of an Inspector of hospitals it was, ho said, playing the game pretty low down, Mr Gray moved to have the vote reduced by “ £l, as an indication of dissatisfaction at the administration of the Inspector General. This was defeated by 21 votes to 10.
Mr Massey and tbo other members of tho Opposition in tho House at the time (1 a.m ) voted with tbo Government, and thus saved it from defeat,
