A DISTINCTION.
(To the Editor Gisborno Times, Siv, —Whilst strongly approving of your loador in yesterday's Times, commenting on the display of false modesty in Iho Auckland picture ease, I am inclined to favor “ J.U.’s ” definition of Lioutouant Terry’s remarks at tho B.M Court, ro tho colonial tarns compared with tho English tar. Your idea of Lieutenant Terry’s meaning is woll intended but I nr-fetched, the construction of tho moaning I think should ho placed on tho words spoken, If lie intended to have given expression to your definition of his remarks, I think lie would have said so, and considering his rank and position I do not think ho should have omitted ids meaning ii lie intended such, especially as lie volunteered tho remarks. However, .1. do hope that the two tars will not be made to sullor owing to tlie distinction spoken oi, as 1 am informed if the Chinaman had not cried out lor police the occurrence would not bavo taken place.—l am, etc., “ Oms ”
