LABOR DAY.
PRESS ASSOCIATION New Plymouth, last night. The initial Labor Day demonstration in New Plymouth passed off successfully, the trades' displays being very creditable. A subsequent attraction was a garden party in the Recreation Grounds, where the Governor was officially weloomed. The function was a spectacular and finanoial success, over 4000 beiog present. His Excellency visited the hospital, old people’s home, freezing works, harbor works, and petroleum bores, where successful demonstration was made. He also inspected tbe Taranaki war veterans.
• Wellington, last night. Thero was beautiful weather to-day for the holiday, and consequently a great exodus from the city. The trades end labor picnic at Day’s Bay attracted thousands oi people.
Dunedin last night. To«day was generally observed as a holiday, and as the weather was beautifully fine the city was deserted in the afternoon, picnic, excursions down the harbor, races, and the Labor Day pionio being the atlraoiione. Over two thousand attended the Labor Day pionio and sports at Outran), and everything passed off enjoyably. Tho Labor Day Sticffield Handicap, 135 yards, resulted : T. Dodds, yards, 1; W.
