STRANGE ROBBERY.

A Hamilton resident ou a visit to Auckland oomplained to the polioe that he had been robbed of £72. His statement was that he got into the oompany of a party of strangers at the hotel, and was induced to acoompany them aboard a small vessel berthed at the wharf. They all went down into the forecastle together, about a dozen of them. Here they started jollifications, ono of them playing a concertina while others deuced. In the course of the danoing some nf them surreptitiously oaught hold of him, aud danoed him up and down. Suddenly he felt a hand ga into his breast pocket, whero he kept his money, and at the Bame time ho felt bis watoh and chain pulled away, He sucoeeded in retaining his purse, and rushed up to the deok and ashore. Near the whatf he met Constable Murray, and promptly reported the oiroumstanoes, Altogether he put his loss at £72. His purse, whioh he saved, contained £9.
