Wellington, last night. The hearing of a oharge of murder against Marion May Emmens was resumed thia afternoon. The proceedings arose out of the fiudiDg of the body of a newiy«born female ohild in a barrel of lime and water, at the rear of the premises occupied by Mawson, confeotioner, who employed aooused as housemaid. Toe j medioal evidenoe given ou Monday wont to show that death was due to fractuie of tbo skull. Detective Kemp deposed that on the 22nd September accused made a statement to him, saying that on the 15 h I September she gave birth to a child in I Mawßon’s back yard. The ohild was born dead, She put tho body in the barrel. I Her reason for concealing tfcc birth of the child was that she did not wish her shame to be known. Sho is 23 yoars of age. The defence was reserved, and accused was committed for trial.
