Meeting at Patutahi. A meeting convened by Mr Owen Gal laghcr was held at Patutahi on Thursday night, about 85 settlers being present. The question o£ a chairman arising M Gallagher said that as convener of the meeting he did not intend to have any chairman. lie then made a vigorous speech, replying to Mr W. D. Lysnar, Generally supporting the Bill. lie asked Mr Woodward to read the Bill, and that Gentleman did so Mr Chambers asked permission for Mr Woodward also to read a criticism published in the Farmers'
Union Advocate. Mr Gallagher said they wanted all the light they could get thrown on the subject, and had no objection to fair criticism. The article was then read, and apparently was convincing to any who had been in doubt. Messrs McKellar, Bayliss, Chambers, and others dealt with the Bill adversely. At the conclusion of the discussion, Mr Chambers said the Bill had been discussed very fully and ho asked that a vote be taken, but Mr Gallagher would not consent to a show of hands, j Supporters of the Bill state that had a show of hands been taken, all these present would have voted against the Bill except
