LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. ai i 1 PRESS ASSOCIATION Wellington, last night. The Couucil met at 2 30 p m. Replying to Hod. T. K. McDonald, the Attorney-General said that it was rather a surprise that no tenders had been received for catering at the Exhibition. He must say on behalf of Government that if no arrangements were made by tho Exhibition Commissioners to cater for visitors Government would take the matter in hand, (Hear, hear.) The Motor Regulation Bill passed. FIRE BRIGADES.
The Fire Brigades Bill was further considered in Committee. Hod. S. T. George moved a new paragraph, to clause B, "contributions by Insurance Companies ” : To prevent exposure of business of Inenranoe Companies, non-observance of secrecy regarding returns to be penalised by a fine not exceeding £so.—Agreed to. The following new olauses were inserted on the motion of Hon. S. T. George i A. (1) Board may if it thinks fit establish and maintain a force of men oharged with the duty of attendiog at fires and saying property, and it shall be the duty of every Brigade with the sanction of tbe Boards, and subject to regulation, to afford necessary assistance to that force in the performance of their duties, and upon application of any officer of that foroe to hand over to their custody property that may be saved from a fire ; (2) oo oharge shall be made by the Board for servioes thus rendered during the progress of a fire. B. No member of a Board shall be personally liable for any aot done by the Board of which he is a member. The Bill was reported with amendments. OTHER BILLS.
The Habitual Criminals and Offenders Bill wa3 further considered in Committee, and reported with amendments. The New Plymouth Borough and Taranaki Sohool Commissioners Bill was put through the final sieges. * The Havelock Athenaeum and Meehanios Institute Act Amendment Bill (Mr Feldwick) was read a second time. The Counoil rose at 3.45.
