The following letter upon the question of electrio light for Gisborne was received from Messrs Steuart and Fenn (Limited), of Auokland " A correspondent of ours in Gisborne has written to us saying that a large number of people there are anxious to get an elooirio light supply, and has suggested to us that gcod support ooald be obtained locally if we were to assist in promoting a Company for the supp y of electricity for lighting and power purpeses. As we had the honor some years back to draw out a report for you on the possibility of transmitting power dcctrioally from Te Reffiga Falls and distributing tbe Bame
throughout the town of Gisborne, we think it advisable before taking any steps in this direction to enquire what the feeling of tbo Council at the present iime may be on the subject. As io osbo there is any likelihood of the Council instituting a municipal plant, we should, of oourse, not consider further the proposal for the promotion of a Company. We may add that our report would dow be probably out of date ; or, at any rate, need considerable revision, and if the Council think tho matter worth consideration we should bo pleaaed lo v’sit G'sborna and review tbe sub j °ot,” It was decided to reply stating that the Council wore net goiog into the question at present.
