Mr Churchill, in n letter to Mr Greenwood, cahled on the 7fib, admitted that the oonGdenoa shown by Canadian and Australian statesman in the only set of British politicians with whom they bad long been accustomed to deal had been in a great measure worthily repa'd. Conservative predominance synchronized wish end had generously aided the growth oflmpsrial Ideas. Taere are now new men with other pricc'ples and different methods, bat there was no change in the central impulse and aspirations as to their ultimata aimj, Canada’s and Australa-ia’e progress -and prosperity were largely asoribed to liberal and eooial principles carried in some ways to far more logical extremes than in the Motherland. The Empire had nothing to fear from Liberalism, by whose Imperial principles of colonial autonomy, lofty humanity, and peaoaful foreign policy, tbe structural cohesion of the Empire had a'ooe been ttohieved and maintained.
