LAWN TENNIS CLUB.
The annual meeting of tho Gisborne Lawn Tennis Club was held on Saturday eveDiog. Thero was a large attendance, the President, Mr W. J- Hawley, being in the chair.
Toe report and balance sheet were read jy the Secretary, Mr 0. Blackburn, and adopied on the motion of tbe Chairman. The report was as follows: —"During the eason 22 new members joined, the total now being 89 ladiea and 42 gentlemen, The olub is now in a healthy position financially, the outstanding subscriptions being brought down to a minimum. Some of the members, including several regular players, neglected to pay their subscriptions until a few days ago, and all should remember that to make a success of the olub all their dues should be paid promptly, besides lessening the work of both treasurer and secretary, Rule 6 states: ‘Sabsoriptione for the year shall bB payable in advance, and all members in arrears on iho 80th November shall not be allowed to play on the oourts or vote on any question.’ We bad a visit from a team of players from Hastings and Napier in December last, but they provod much too strong for the local men, winning tbe majority of their matohes. Several tourna. ments were held during the year, whioh kept up the interest of players to the end of tho season, Trophies were donated by the president aod one of our vice-presi-dents, and the club’s thanks arc due to these gentlemen, A speoial vote of [hanks is due to the ladies who were always so willing to provide afternoon teas during the season.’’ The balance-sheet showed that tho noeipts were £ll7 Bs, inoiuding a credit balance of £l7 la IQJ, and on the year's working a balance to credit of £4 5s lid remained; but She expenditure icc'udad £3B 7s id of old aocounts paid off and £2 15s for printing rules, in addition to tho current expenses. Tho amount of Bubsoriptions collected was £76 10s 63, of which £63 9s was for the current year, £lO 19 1 6i for tho previous year, £1 11s 6d for 1903 4, and 10s 6d for 1902-8. The liabilities ore £IOO mortgage, five months’ interest £2 10s, sundry creditors £8 6s. Tna assets were sat down at £317 8s lid —an acre of land with improvements, £300; roller and phnt, £lO ; outstanding subsoriptiona, £3 3s; cash in hand and in bank, £4 5s lid, Mr Saunders raised the point as to the value oi the sec ion, and in the discussion that ensued the opinion was expressed that it was worth at least £SOC, but that so long aa it was undervalued there was nothing to complain of. At a later stage tho suggestion was made that a furtuer sum oi £IOO should bo raistd on the property, to be spent on fencing and other improvements, and after full discussion a motion was carried instructing the incoming committee to msks enquiries as to tho best terms on whioh another £IOO can be raised, and report to a general meeting. The elootion of officers resulted : President, Mr W. J. Hawley; vioo Presidents, Messrs H. Kano, G. Grant, Broadhurst, T. Alston Coleman, and G. H. Lysnat; hon. Secretary and Treasurer, Mr C. Blackburn ; Committee, Messrs Gover, Saunders, K. Willock, A. Coleman, Ruby; auditor, Mr W. G. Evans; delegates to Hawke’s Bay Association, Messrs Pasley and A. Macfarlano. The election of the
ladies’ committee was left to Mrs Kano to arrange, A number of new members were
elected. It was decided to open tho Beason on tbe Saturday prior to the show. A special vote of thanks was tendered to the Secretary, who was warmly complimented on the satifaetory manner in which ho had carried out his duties,
