LOANS RAISED AND MATURING,

A return laid on tho tabic of the House shows that i£11,780 commission and brokerage was paid on loans raised last year. The large sum £8496 was paid on the half million loan for publio works raised in Australia; £762 was paid for a £75,000 loan for railways improvement raised in Australia, and £IB6O on land for settlements loans raised in the colony, Another return shows the loans and debentures matured in 1905—6, giving particulars of conversions, renewals and redemptions. £405,700 was converted, £217,501 renewed, and £S 24,500 redeemed, the total being £1,450,700. The total charges and expenses amounted to £21,246 The loans and debentures falling due next year amounted to no less tlran £2,168,766. The rate of interest at present being paid is 3|- and 4 per cont,
DISEASED CATTLE
There were condemned under the Stock
Act last year 2941 cattle, 49 swine, and 1 sheep. The total amount paid in respect of compensation was £5383,
DUTY ON POTATOES,
During tho last two years 80S9 tons of potatoes were imported into the colony, he duty paid being ,£10958,
