A small dinner-party at Government House last Thursday was followed by a dance, also small, early, and for younger folk. This is the first of the Cinderella dances Lady Plunket generally gives dur-
ing the season. The table dinner was decorated with wattle and lit with many candlesin the massivesilvcr-giltcandclabra that forms part of the presentation to Lord Dufi'criu when British Ambassador in Paris. The drawingroom and ballroom were arrayed with masses of foliage, fine palms, spring flowers, and some brilliant azaleas. Lady Plunket wore a flame> colored satin, with a berthe and sleeverallies of exquisite Oaruc-kmacross applique, and the lion. Kathleen Plunket was in apricot chiffon, much gathered and frilled, trimmed with garlands of tiny roses in delicately tinted chiffon, Mrs T. C.
Williams’ silver grey brocade was draped witli iino old lace, and Mrs Turnbull's beautiful fair hair was set oil' admirably by
her black soquined frock, A lovely lace over dress of needle-run French blonde, was worn by Mrs Ilerries, wife of the member for Bay of Plenty, and Miss Duncan had on a charming pompadour brocade, the bodice being crossed by a band of cerise velvet, kept in place by bunches of violets, the rose and purple repeating the tints in the brocade.
