A very heated scene occurred at the Borough Council meeting this evening. The Mayor, Mr Michel, accused Councillor Clarke of having made slanderous statements against him and other Councillors, which he forcibly resented. He also charged Councillor Clark with having taken money illegally from another local body, and being the tool of a small political clique. The Mayor moved a resolution strongly condeming the action of Councillor Clarke, who attempted to reply, but the Mayor declared the meeting closed. Earlier in the evening the Mayor accused ex-mayor Maude with having illegally taken away from Town Clerk’s OHice a number of enrolment forms, causing 48 ratepayers to be disfranchised in the resent borough by-election
