FOOTBALL.
WELLINGTON 14, TARANAKI 6.
PRESS ASSOCIATION New Plymouth, last night. The thirteenth annual match, Taranaki v. Wellington, was played to-day in splendid weather, before a very large attendance. The game was exceeedingly open and interesting. The teams on the whole were very evenly matched, but the Wellington backs were collectively more clever and dangerous. The local forwards, contrary to expectations, quite held their own until within 15 minutes of the end, when they cimmenoed to crack up through lack of condition, Wellington won by 14 to 6, For the winners tries were scored by MitchensoD, Wallace, and Gilchrist, Wallace converting one and a goal from a mark. Hargreaves kicked a penalty goal, and Bourke scored a try for Taranaki. The game was a splendid one to watch, quick exchanges amongst all the backs being frequent and free. Several chances to score were missed by both sides, Taranaki, if anything, having the worst of the luck, the ball being grounded on the line on three occasions in quick succession,
