FOOTBALL.
The annual representative match between Hawke’s Bay and Poverty Bay takes place at the Victoria Domain on Saturday afternoon, Considerable interest is being takou in the game, which should prove one of tho best seen hero for maDy Svcsons. Napier have a fairly strong oombinatioD, including one of the “ All Bisckd,” and they are slightly favorites ; but the local fifteen can bs depended on to worthily uphold the prestige of the district, aod although they cannot be described as anythiug like brilliant, they are a solid lot with a supo.-b defence. There is not a weak man in tho team. The only one who has not proved himself before local spectator is Kaipara, who is playing five-eighths with Brown, and if this player shows up as well on Saturday 83 in the (rials the back division should give a good account of themselves. If Poverty Bay are beaten on Saturday it will be in the forwards, who are a slow, heavy lot. They are all grafters, however, and in fine condition to last a hard game. The followiog is a short description of the merits of the platers:— Full-back: Erekana (Kaiti-City). One of the best backs that To Auto lias sent forth. Can play in any position. A coolheaded player, magnificent kick. Drops goals from half way. Handles tho ball accurately and has sound defence. Is a trifle two confident.
Wing three-quarter : Nolan (Kaiti-City). A splendid defensive player and sound in all departments. Good scoring man. Centre: Rowe (West End). A fast, dashing player, impregnablo defence, and strong in attack. A very hard man to stop. Always passes at tho right moment and never leaves a comrade unsupported, and can last tho hardest game. Wing three-quarter : Broughton (KaitiCity). A speedy, finished player. Handles the ball and passes cleverly. A likely scorer.
Five-eighths : Brown (West End). A sound, safe back, splendid kick and sure tackier. Would bo seen at his best behind the pack.
Five-eighths: Kaipara (Kaiti-City). Another player of tho dashing order. Has shown up well in tho trials and should justify his inclusion. Half: Poulson (Kaiti-City). A good defensive player, revels in stopping rushes Should consider his backs more and got the ball away quicker from the scrum.
Wing forward : Wi Friday (West End.) A good solid grafier. Has to prove him self a winger. Good half if he would pass.
Forwards: Parker-Turei (Kaiti-City). The best forward that the Bay has ever turned out, and it has turned out some good ones. As a hooker ho is without an equal, and on tho lino he stands alone. Good in tha loose, handling the ball and kieking like a back. Splendid defence. Blair (West Eod). Good hooker. Grafts W->ll and can last the hardest game. Wepiha (West End). Too well known for comment. PEys with as much vim and go as ever.
Hakowai (West End). A good lock. Steady hard-wotkiDg forward. Brooking (Wriapu) Very fine forward. Gold on tbe lino and in tbe loose, and puts his weight into the pack. A good scorer.
Pino (W.st End). Splendid forward. Or tho ball from start to finish. Gets down on the opposing backs with startling suddenness. Makes splendid openings, aud passes nieely. Hanson (Kaiti-City). Fast dashing forward. Clever with his feet, and good on the line.
