The hazy oonditionß of tho weather were responsible for the first report that the Sokoto was ashore. A wite to-night reports that the Sokoto is safe, anoboted a mile from the end of the reef in ten fathoms of water. Tugs have been despatched from Newcastle to tow her out.

The oaptain of the Sokoto states that after a sucaession of three days’ gales he found himself in tho vicinity of the reef. The weather was thiek and hazy, and there was a mountainous sea running. Realising that he was getting in too olose a proximity to land he dropptd anohor.
