Judgo Sith Smith, who has bean appointed a Royal Commissioner, is holding an enquiry into cirtain allegations by Kuini Wi Rangipupu and Hen: Te Rau against the Public Truster. One complaint is that a greater amount of commission rvas charged for colioclirig rents than was allowed, and another that complainants had no security of title as against tho Public Truetoe. A second commission empowers Mr Seth Smith to investigate allegations that a oertain person charged the natives usurious rafos of interest on money advances made, by which tboy woro impoverished. The enquiry is proceeding.

The Rev. Archibald Treadwell, pastor of St. John’s Presbyterian Cbureb, Ha-wc-ra, died this morning here. Deceased had been very ill for some timo, and recently sent an intimation to bis congregation that his case waß hopeless. He was pastor of St. John’s Ohurcb, Lyttelton, for twelve years, and left there two years ego owiDg to ill health, accepting oharge of Hawera. Ho leaves a wifo and four ohildrtn.
