Considerable success has been obtained in tho destruction of rabbits on Kangareobio station, Orange, by tying a quantity of cotton waste saturated with bisulphide of carbon to the hind legs of the rabbits aud liberating them in warrens blocked up, with the result that those inside are suffocated.
An interesting point has arisen in connection with the deportation of lepers. Thoro are in this State eight Kanaka lepers. The Federal Government admit it may be difficult to land them in" the islands. The Federal Government may, therefore, have to retain and support them, unless this course is found to conflict with the imperative demand for deportation laid down by the Act. Melbourne, August 23. Mr Dealcin has again pressed for a reply on the New Hebrides question, and has received the following cable from Lord Elgin : “I am afraid that at present I can only say that a reply will bo sent at the earliest possible date.”
