DRAINAGE ENGINEER.

DUNEDIN’S DIFFICULTIES. *■[ j-s PRESS ASSOCIATION Dunedin, last night. The Drainage Board is now without an engineer. Mr Manchester, of Melbourne, who had been appointed, arrived yesterday ; and this morniog, after seeing the acting engineer aod chairman of the works committee, decid’d not to aoeept the posh tion, but to return te Melbourne. His reasons, acoording to conversation, were that there were no detailed plans of the sehemp. Detached pieces of work had been done, "but it was not possible for a stranger to pick up the threads and carry out the scheme. Had there been plans he would have beeu prepared to go on. As the Board had nothing before it but this conversation, and as Mr Manchester would not attend the meeting, the Board adjourned till next mcroiog, when Mr Manchester has promised to attend.

At the Police Court yesterday a young man named Frank Thornton was fined ss, oosts 2s, for drunkenness.
